What are the different types of Contact Lenses?

Contact Lenses are an alternative to spectacles and made of thin plastic material which are placed in front of the cornea. They are basically of two types :

  1. Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) are semi rigid lenses which allow O2 to permeate through them to the eye. They are easy to care for , durable and give good clarity of vision . They are prescribed for all types of vision correction .
  2. Soft lenses are made of water absorbing plastics which make them membrane like for maximum comfort .They are ideal for sports since they cannot be easily dislodged from the eye . Soft lens are available for correction of all types refractive errors as well as to suit different types lifestyle . They are available in different colors , also daily disposable , weekly disposable , monthly disposable.

Can anyone wear Contact Lenses?

Yes any one can wear Contact Lenses .

Is there any disadvantage to wearing Contact Lenses ?

The only disadvantage is that it may take a week or two to getting used to wearing them .

Are Contact Lenses safe to wear even for sport ?

Contact Lenses are extremely safe for sports .

Can eye makeup be worn with Contact Lenses ?

Yes eye makeup can be worn with Contact Lenses .

Can persons wearing bifocals wear Contact Lenses?

Bifocal Contact Lenses are available but are more expensive .

Can Contact Lenses get lost in the eye or fall down ?

Contact Lenses cannot get lost in your eye. They may slip out of place .You will be instructed how to get them in place by closing your eyes and gentling massaging the Contact Lenses into place.

How long will it take to get used to Contact Lenses?

You will be instructed how to wear your Contact Lenses, starting with a few hours a day and increasing the time gradually. Usually it takes a couple of weeks to get used to wearing Contact Lenses.

If found uncomfortable can the person revert to spectacles?

Yes .The person can easily revert to wearing spectacles in case he is just not able to adjust to Contact Lenses at all.
